After completing his basic education, Amitabh took to Hindustani Classical Vocal training in a big way. In his early years, he received training under the tutelage of towering musical giants such as Late Ustad Naseer Ahmed Khansaheb, Late Pt. Kamal Mishra, Satyanarayan Mishra, Pt. Dinkar Kaikini and Dr. Ashok Ranade.

Amitabh was successful in his radio audition from Bombay in 1987, and was selected to tour Jalna, Buldana and Akola for promotional concerts under the aegis of the Directorate of Cultural Affairs in 1988. Amitabh has performed across India as a solo singer-both on the classical as well as the non-classical stage. He won the best singer award in a classical competition organized by the India Culture League in 1998/9. An article written by him on the declining standards of music was carried in the inaugural issue of the leading music magazine-Raga to Rock. He has won numerous awards as a singer and has also presided as judge in many inter-collegiate functions over the years. He is the only vocalist to perform live pure classical vocal music as a solo artiste at the "Tanjore" Indian restaurant at the Taj Intercontinental Hotel in Mumbai (1998).
